How does Infrared Thermography work?
Utilizing equipment like thermal cameras, an internal snapshop of equipment can be taken. As a temperature profile of the equipment in question, utilizing the infra red spectrum of the electromagnetic spectrum, a multi-coloured image of the device under question will be generated. How will Infrared Thermography Identify problems?
Infrared technologies generate temperature profiles of equipment. They can give you a boost in identifying equipment failures before they happen. In boiler systems for instance, the furnace can be assessed for hot spots that are generated due to sediment deposit in a tube. In heater systems, tube blockages and scaling can also be detected. Any zone that differs in temperature from other identical zones in an equipment, will be easily detectable with their differences in temperature. These zones will either show up on the profile as a hot spot, or a cooler zone.
As a generally quantitative tool, root cause analysis from a visual perspective can then be enhanced. Utilizing radiometric data, you can get a temperature estimate of the area under question.
